Avatar: The Last Bandmate Chp 9

Chapter 9:
"You're offered a million dollar record contract and you walk away?"  Mai Umbra is the daughter of the head of the FNR subsidiary New O Music.  She dressed in dark clothing, and listened to Goth rock and metal.  She felt just a little bit uncomfortable sitting in her friend Ty Lee's room as the two of them listened to Azula speak.

"I couldn't let myself get tangled up in another one of his stupid schemes! He's always manipulating everything so he ends up on top!"  Azula looked down then, and sat on the pink bedspread that matched the walls of the room.  Ty Lee, who was also sitting on her bed, leaned over and put a hand on her friend's shoulder.

"... No matter what the cost..." Azula said under her breath, but still loud enough for her friends to hear.   

"Azula…"  Ty Lee said, trying to comfort her friend.

"Well not this time!"  Azula suddenly stood up, grasping the air in a fist.

"I thought you didn't believe he had something to do with the fire?"  Why did Mai always have to ruin everything with logic?

"Well I changed my mind!"  Azula said, crossing her arms.

"Does this mean you're siding with your brother now?"  Mai asked dryly, again souring Azula's triumphant mood.

Ty Lee came from a long line of gymnasts and acrobats, and the walls of her room were lined with gymnastics ribbons and prizes.  All six of her sisters were also gymnastics champions.  A pink Music Man Sterling sat in the corner of her room; she'd taken up the instrument in order to distinguish herself in a group of identical year-aparts.  She looked at Azula hopefully as the girl contemplated Mai's question.

"I'm rebellious, Mai, not crazy."  

Ty Lee sighed.

"And how do we fit into all of this nonsense?"  Again with questions, Mai.  She was sitting on a wicker chair near Ty Lee's window. Azula smiled a smile that bordered between hopeful and sinister and stated proudly.

"I want you guys to join me, be my band mates."

Ty lee and Mai looked at each other and then back at Azula.

"We're your friends, Azula, and if you feel so strongly about this… then, we'll help you see it through! Right Mai!?"  Ty Lee said cheerfully, and then she and Azula turned to Mai, who replied with a sigh,

"If only to end the disgusting monotony my life has become."
